Elbasan-Rrogozhinë, part of Corridor VIII, is the next construction site where works have already begun to provide a new road axis, with high conditions and standards. Work has started with the first 18 kilometers, Elbasan-Papër-Ura e Grykshit, and within a few weeks has advanced significantly.
The segment extends along the Shkumbin River valley, where works have been carried out to excavate the road body, over a length of 980 km, as well as to construct gabion walls, including works for the foundations of manholes.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, together with the Director of the Albanian Road Authority, Gentian Gjyli, closely followed the works at this site.
Director Gjyli announced that the works began in December last year and so far approximately 5.2% of the physical volumes have been completed. No problems or obstacles have been identified that could affect the progress of the works.
This axis will be of category A, a main interurban highway, with high speed of movement, thus offering high safety conditions. "This is the first part, the first phase of this project from Elbasan to Rrogozhina, a project that will be 40 kilometers long and moreover it is another category A highway in the Republic of Albania, which meets all the European conditions and criteria of movement, but which on the other hand is one of the most important Pan-European Corridors that crosses Albania", explained Balluku.
Almost the entire axis will be on a new track, thus not creating any problems in the movement of vehicles at all times when the works are carried out. Also, this axis will be connected to other highways that are being built, Kashar-Lekaj or the Elbasan bypass.
"We must also bear in mind that Corridor VIII has a very large impact on the operations of the new port of Porto Romano, as it will be a port that will not only serve Albania, but will also serve North Macedonia, through a port that was initially designed by the North Macedonian side to be in Strug, but now with the decision of the new government it has been decided to move it and be in the capital, in Skopje. So this Corridor will also serve the commercial volumes of the new port, so it is of particular importance", Balluku underlined.
The Elbasan-Rrogozhina road axis is 40 kilometers long. The project envisages the construction of a category A highway with a speed of 130 km/h. (A2 Televizion)
