The feasibility study of the "Red and Black" railway, which will connect Pristina with Durres and is expected to pass from Durres to Shkodra, to continue to Gjakova and then to Pristina, was presented this Monday in Shkodra.
In her speech, Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku described this as a historic moment for Albania. According to her, the railway does not simply represent a transport axis, but a national connection with economic, geopolitical and symbolic importance.
"We are not talking about a railway, but about a national connection as it is the red and black railway, we are talking about a geopolitical nucleus which turns the Albanian nation into a pole of magnetism for the economy and European connectivity. We often talk about regional connectivity, about regional economy, but infrastructure and energy corridors are not regional, they are European."
According to Balluku, this railway will be a connecting node of three European corridors and will give special importance to the entire political and geopolitical development of Southeast Europe.
"This railway will be connected through Corridor 8 through all other axes that have been made public. It will also be connected to Corridor 10, but on the other hand it will also affect the Adriatic-Ionian corridor in a very important length of it, thus turning it into a connecting node of the three European corridors and giving this seemingly national railway a special importance for the entire political and geopolitical development of Southeast Europe," said Balluku.
This ceremony was attended by high-ranking state authorities from both countries as well as the mayors of the municipalities where the railway is expected to pass, such as Shkodra and Gjakova.
