Albania is heavily dependent on imports and, consequently, on the countries from which it obtains most of the products it needs. Such dependence exposes our country to price fluctuations in international markets, especially when they are on an upward trend.
Trade data shows that Albania realizes 57.4% of its total trade with European Union countries. These markets provide 51.5% of imports and 71.1% of exports.
But which are the countries with which we conduct the majority of our trade, in order to understand the geography of trade exchanges?
Our main trading partner is Italy with 27.8% of total trade, followed by China with 8.5% of trade exchanges and Turkey, with 8%. Greece has moved to fourth place with only 7.2%, thus losing position in relation to Albania.
What do we buy and sell the most in foreign markets?
Albania mainly imports machinery and equipment, as well as food. These are the two groups with the main weight in the total products we provide from abroad and which clearly proves the great dependence of the country, both in terms of daily consumption products such as food, and for the functioning of the industry.
But what do we export?
It turns out that the main group of exports are textiles and footwear, also known as fashions, followed by minerals, fuels, as well as construction materials and metals.
