An Egyptian citizen has been arrested by police in Durrës, accused of creating a criminal organization for human trafficking in Italy.
49-year-old Walid Elabd was wanted by Italian authorities, while the law in the neighboring country for this criminal activity provides for a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
"As a result of the coordination of information and police actions, with Italian counterparts, through Interpol Tirana specialists, the Directorate of the Special Operational Force, within the framework of the operation "Operacionalja 36", captured in Durrës and put in handcuffs the citizen declared internationally wanted, on behalf of Italy, W. E., 49 years old, born in Egypt. The Court of Catania, Italy, has issued an arrest warrant for this citizen, for the criminal offense of "Human Trafficking", committed within the framework of a criminal organization", the police announce.
Meanwhile, Interpol Tirana continues to cooperate with Interpol Rome to finalize the procedure for the extradition of the 49-year-old to Italy. (A2 Televizion)
