Every day, more and more people are talking about Albanian criminal groups that operate not only in our country but also outside the territory.
But how many criminal groups are there? The 2024 annual report of the Special Prosecution Office SPAK states that at least 16 criminal groups with high social risk have been identified. For 10 of them, criminal activity has been proven, says SPAK, groups that have used sophisticated methods including encrypted communications such as SKY ECC and money laundering through cryptocurrencies.
But if we talk about the State Police report, it is said that 40 criminal groups were targeted in the country last year.
Both institutions state that these criminal groups are mainly involved in drug trafficking.
Lawyer Arbër Hoxha says that in the statistics of the State Police, criminal groups cannot be called criminal groups.
Hoxha explains why a group of people who distribute narcotics in schools cannot be classified as a criminal group.
Expert Fatjon Softa says that a criminal group can be called not only drug distributors in schools, but also those people who, in groups of more than three, carry out arms trafficking or even prostitution.
