Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha will face the High Court once again, in an attempt to lift a personal security measure. In the High Court, the former head of government, accused of "corruption" in the "Partizani" case, is seeking the lifting of the "obligation to appear", a measure imposed on him by the Special Appeal.
Berisha's appeal against the Appeals decision was registered with the High Court this Friday and the rapporteur for the case will be selected in the coming days. In the appeal, the former prime minister's lawyers claimed that the measure against him is not proportional and that there are no legal conditions for its implementation.
On January 3, the Special Appeal decided to force Berisha to appear before SPAK twice a month, overturning the decision of the Special Court, which on November 27 released Berisha from 11 months of "house arrest" and left him without any security measures.
The new "compulsory appearance" measure has been meticulously implemented by the former prime minister, who has also turned his visits to SPAK into moments of delivering messages to the Special Structure, as well as giving speeches to supporters.
Previously, Berisha "knocked" on the High Court to oppose the "obligation to appear" and "ban on leaving the country" measures and then that of "house arrest", where in both cases he received a negative response.
Another defendant in the "Partizani" case, Jamarbër Malltezi, son-in-law of former Prime Minister Berisha, has also filed an appeal with the High Court. Malltezi seeks to overturn the decision of the Special Appeal, which left unchanged the security measure "house arrest" against him, a measure in which he has been under since November 2023.
