Yesterday evening, at 00:50, in neighborhood no. 18 of the city of Durrës, citizen Ermir Dedja, 29 years old, was shot and died in hospital as a result of the injuries he sustained.
The incident occurred near the neighborhood health center, where the victim was walking, wearing a sports suit. Masked individuals took advantage of the moment he was walking on the sidewalk of a building and shot him with an automatic weapon from behind, in the shoulder area, according to sources.
A resident of a building opposite the scene of the incident stated that he heard gunshots and at first thought they were fireworks. From the window he saw a person lying on the ground and realized that it was a murder. According to him, a little later the police arrived and then the ambulance that transported the young man's body to the Durrës Regional Hospital, where he could not survive the injuries he sustained.
According to initial information, the perpetrators were tracking the victim and after coordinating on the victim's itinerary, they signaled each other to commit his murder and then left the scene in a vehicle. The victim, originally from Shijak, but resident in Durrës, lived in an apartment in neighborhood no. 11 alone. He turns out to be a person with a criminal record.
In 2015, Ermir Dedja was arrested after selling drugs to a group of people who intended to transport them from the Morina border crossing to Kosovo. The case was part of the police operation codenamed “Jupa 1”. In another case, in 2017, he was arrested after supporting Ismail Nuredini in an injury in Shijak.
Police services have arrived at the scene and are continuing their checks to apprehend the perpetrators. A special investigative group has been set up and, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, intensive investigations are underway to clarify the full circumstances of the incident and to secure evidence to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
Police say they are reviewing security camera footage to better understand the dynamics of the incident. Investigations are ongoing and several leads are currently being examined, but there is still no definitive lead on the motive for the murder.
