Last year, 40 criminal groups, mainly related to drug trafficking, were targeted in our country. Compared to 2023, it turns out that 9 fewer such groups were targeted.
For experts, the decrease in numbers is related to several factors, the most important of which, according to them, is the departure of group leaders outside Albania.
Expert Faik Basha says that criminal groups also suspend their criminal activity for a certain period of time, due to the information they receive that they may be targeted.
"We cannot speak only of a decrease in the groups, we cannot speak of a decrease in the striking power of law enforcement institutions, but there are a number of elements that influence these types of fluctuations, increases and decreases in the strikes of criminal groups.
The first is the unification of these groups into a single syndicate, in a single mission and in a union of territories to carry out criminal activities. Sometimes there have been divisions of these groups due to clashes over interests and economic issues within the activity of criminal groups. We have had movements of these criminal groups, but we have also had their departures to Dubai, which has made it possible to reduce the level of strikes or the number of groups struck by law enforcement institutions", said Faik Basha, expert.
Expert Fatjon Softa states that one of the factors in the reduction of the number of convictions is also related to the investigation phase, because an investigation can take months or years to reach the crackdown phase.
"If these criminal groups have moved outside the territory, if these criminal groups have found favor within the police structure or law enforcement structures, or perhaps the decrease in the amount of narcotics cultivation as a result of the crackdown on the police force. We may be in the phase of investigating these activities of these persons, who may have moved their activity outside the Albanian territory for a while. They are mobile groups that move from abroad to the territory and from the territory abroad. Because in the end, at least hard drugs, except for cannabis, are activities that they have developed most in foreign territories," said Fatjon Softa, an expert.
According to the data, criminal groups have been identified in Tirana, Durrës, Vlorë, Gjirokastër, Fier, Shkodër, Elbasan, Kurbin and Fushë-Krujë. (A2 Televizion)
