The administrator of the company importing 18 tons of chicken meat contaminated with salmonella bacteria has been detained by the police.
Arben Goxha was wanted for importing several tons of chicken meat that was found to be infected with salmonella bacteria. However, the police statement states that "after consultation with the prosecutor, it was decided to proceed with the release of this citizen."
"The first notice is for Arben Goxha, who was wanted for importing several tons of chicken meat that turned out to be infected with salmonella bacteria.
Specialists of the Economic and Financial Crime Investigation Section detained citizen AG, 50 years old, wanted for the criminal offense "Importing, producing, selling and storing food dangerous to human health or life". After consulting with the prosecutor, it was decided to proceed with the release of this citizen", the police announced.
In addition to placing the infected product on the market, he is suspected of having also presented several fictitious invoices, making it difficult to trace the harmful meat for consumers. The police have also prosecuted Arben Goxha's brother, also an administrator of a meat processing company, on suspicion of importing food products containing the salmonella bacteria.
Three AKU inspectors, Gëzim Hushi, Sada Lufta, and Aldo Sinjari, have also been included in the investigation. They are accused of "abuse of duty" because, in their capacity as AKU inspectors, their actions and inactions allowed these products to enter the market.
Through an official response, the AKU announced that after analyses conducted at ISUV on March 21, salmonella bacteria had been identified in the shipment coming from Brazil and that it was coordinating tracking and blocking, but did not specify the quantity discarded, or the quantity identified and blocked, if any.
