The draft of the new criminal code was presented today, which is not final, as it is expected to be submitted for public discussion.
Also present during the presentation of this draft was the Minister of Justice, Ulsi Manja, who invited the opposition to contribute with expertise and active participation in the discussion tables, writes A2 CNN.
Manja added that the new penal code must be in line with European Union standards, while adding that it is not just one political force or government that enters the EU, but Albania, therefore, according to him, everyone's contribution is needed.
"This draft is not a final draft. This draft will take all the necessary time for public consultation. The Ministry will only be an institutional stakeholder, like everyone else. In the interest of an open process, I would like to invite all justice and legal opinion actors to become an active part of the public discussion phase of the new criminal code.
This is a key moment to build together a fundamental act of the rule of law.
I invite all legal experts, the Magistrate's School, Albanian students studying within the country or at foreign universities, the media or organizations that protect human rights, and I would like to send a special invitation to the parliamentary opposition, to contribute with expertise and active participation in the discussion tables.
