“Hello! Please vote for Roxana Costin in this poll, she is the daughter of a friend of mine, the main prize is a scholarship for free education for the whole next year, this is very important for her. Thank you very much!”
This message, with a link attached, arrived on the phones of many citizens on Monday, on the WhatsApp platform, from people who had their contact numbers registered.
Through such and similar messages like this, they aim to acquire your personal data.
IT expert Erion Demiri advises that if a similar message like this comes to your mobile phone, do not click and do not take any action. But what should we do if we have clicked on the link and our data has been taken by someone else unknown to us?
"Clicking on just one link that comes to us on Whatsapp does not in itself pose a great risk because the page that opens then requests other data from us. Where then in various ways of fraud we are asked to enter a certain code and other things. For this specific case, it is enough for us to go to what we call linked devices, that is, which are devices that you have allowed to connect to your phone and remove those devices that we have given the right to use," IT expert Erion Demiri told A2 CNN.
The expert advises that anyone who falls prey to this scam should file a police report. From the data that a2cnn has obtained, it results that the criminal offense of cybercrime has been on the rise over the past year.
In 2024, a total of 1,210 cases were recorded, 446 more than the previous year. Tirana has the highest number of registrations of this criminal offense, also due to its high population. 65% of cases were registered in Tirana. In second place is the Vlora region with 9% and followed by Elbasan with 8%.
Fewer cases were registered in Shkodër, Dibër, Gjirokastër and Saranda. While the Kukës district has not registered any criminal offense related to cybercrime. (A2 Televizion)
