Democratic Party MP, Jorida Tabaku, has reacted strongly through a video on social media about the unsustainable price increases in Albania.
Tabaku has described this phenomenon as an unfair reality for citizens, saying that today Albania competes with the European Union only for high prices.
Tabaku also goes on to say that salaries in Albania are on par with African countries, writes A2 CNN.
“Today, Albania competes with the European Union only on prices!” – declares Tabaku. She underlines that according to official data for 2025, prices for basic products such as cheese, milk, eggs and oil are respectively 25-30% higher than the EU average. Meanwhile, fuel remains among the most expensive in the region, reaching prices that reach the limit of 2 dollars per liter – equal to those of Switzerland.
Tabaku highlights the stark contrast between the country's standard of living and European levels, recalling that Albanians' per capita income is only 40% of the EU average. "This is the Albanian reality: African wages, European prices!" she declares.
According to her, the solution lies in controlling markets, opening up to competition, and overturning the economic model captured by the minority. She calls for the economy to return to serving the majority and Albanian families who today face the heaviest economic burden in the region.
"Why should Albanian citizens pay more than Europeans for the same products, when they have less income?" asks Tabaku, closing with a clear call: This must change! (A2 Televizion)
