A serious incident occurred at around 04:10 in the morning in the "Pavarësia" neighborhood of the city of Vlora, where a 35-year-old man is suspected of having shot himself in his apartment.
A2 CNN learns that the person in question is citizen Arnaldo Matodashaj, who was allegedly playing with a "Glock" pistol when the weapon accidentally discharged, seriously injuring him in the head.
Immediately after the incident, Matodashaj received first aid and was then transported to the Trauma Hospital in Tirana for specialized treatment, where he is in critical condition.
The firearm was seized at the scene as material evidence, while the investigative group, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, is continuing its work to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident.
The police are not ruling out other leads, because the circumstances of the self-harm still remain unclear.
Arnaldo Matodashaj is a well-known name to the authorities, as in July 2023 he was arrested along with a friend while carrying an illegal weapon.
