Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj has been in the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime since Wednesday morning. The court postponed the session to give the defense time to familiarize itself with the file, while it reviews the security measures given to Veliaj, his wife and 6 other businessmen.
A2 CNN journalist Armand Bajrami reports that during the hearing, in his speech, Mayor Erion Veliaj claimed a conflict of interest against the prosecutor in the case, Ols Dado.
Veliaj was arrested on Monday by SPAK order, after being accused of corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets. His wife, Ajola Xoxa, was placed under house arrest. Businessman Elman Abule was also arrested, while 5 other businessmen were ordered to appear in court. (A2 Televizion)
