Ilaria Sula's murder, Filipino boyfriend confesses: I killed her when my parents were home, I put her body in a suitcase

New details have come to light about the murder in Italy of 22-year-old Albanian Ilaria Sula, whose lifeless body was found in a suitcase in a wooded area.

Her Filipino boyfriend, Mark Samson, has confessed to killing Ilarian in his home and at a time when his parents were there, but this does not include them in the investigation.

The 23-year-old was taken to the police station at dawn where he was questioned by prosecutors coordinated by Deputy Prosecutor Giuseppe Cascini, of the Rome prosecutor's office. During the questioning, which lasted several hours, her ex-boyfriend directed investigators to the suitcase where he had placed the 22-year-old's body.

He told police that Ilarian had stabbed him several times in his apartment on Via Homs. Samson later revealed that he had put the body in a car to transport it to the forest, 40 kilometers from the capital.

The young man also said that he had disposed of the knife by throwing it in a trash can and the cell phone, which he had thrown into a well in the Montesacro area, but the two objects have not yet been found.

After the crime, he continued to use Ilaria's cell phone, deleting social networks and writing to the Albanian's friends. In an attempt to dispel suspicions, he also went to Ilaria's friend's house, appearing concerned about her disappearance.

However, during questioning by prosecutors, he did not want to provide explanations about how the crime was committed, when it happened, the motive, and why he dumped the body in that particular forest at the end of a stream, near the municipality of Pol.

" I'm sorry for what I did ," he told investigators, who linked the motive to the end of a romantic relationship. Samson is facing charges of " intentional murder " and " concealing a corpse ."

Ilaria had left home on the evening of March 25, without telling her roommates. And since then, no one had seen her. The 22-year-old's disappearance turned into a tragedy. This morning at dawn, the body of the Statistics student at Sapienza University was found in a wooded area in the municipality of Pola, an hour's drive from Rome, about 40 kilometers east of the capital.

Late in the morning, the boy's parents were taken from the apartment on Via Homs where the murder took place. They are yet to be questioned by investigators and the prosecution, but under Italian law they cannot be investigated for aiding their son.

The case would be different in the case of complicity in murder. Evidence is needed to support such a charge, and it is still unclear whether the two parents were aware of what was happening in their apartment. Much less whether they played a role in the murder of Ilaria Sula.

Ilaria's family is devastated. The mother felt sick this morning. "We can't explain it. Why did he do it? We don't understand why he did it, only he knows," said Leon, the 22-year-old's younger brother, who has arrived in the Italian capital with his family.

"I last spoke to Ilaria two weeks ago, because she came to visit us in Terni," he recalls. "She was quiet and didn't tell me about her problems. Then only messages, but I'm not sure she wrote to her," says the deceased's brother.

As for Samson, he reveals: "I knew him, they were together for a year but they broke up . "

Ilaria Sula was originally from Terni. The worried family filed a complaint at the San Lorenzo police station. Her name was entered into the search database and the police immediately launched a search, initially with numerous calls on social media.

Ilaria shared an apartment with four other students in the university district of San Lorenzo. " She left home at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, without saying goodbye ," they said.

" She didn't tell anyone where she was going. We didn't see anything strange. But since then, we haven't seen or heard from her ," the 22-year-old's roommates confessed.
