For 5 hours on Wednesday, Artan Tafani, a repentant justice official, confessed to the Special Court the criminal events for which members of a criminal group suspected of being led by Laert Haxhiu are accused.
Tafani, whose statements helped solve 17 criminal cases across the country, from murders to explosives explosions, and sent 8 defendants to trial, confessed in court that he had his first meetings with those who later became his criminal accomplices in prison.
Then, in their company, he met Laert Haxhiu in a bar on the outskirts of Tirana and then in the Dajti area, where the latter asked him to work for him.
"Since Anterio Kaloshi and Orges Bilbili had gone to prison, Laert Haxhiu needed people for me," said Tafani. The repentant revealed details of the macabre execution of Fridman Xhaferri in the same period in Korça. He had gone there with Laret Haxhiu, Lulëzim Spahina, Bledar Berberi and Mariglen Topuzi and on the way they had also chosen a reservoir in Gjanc to dump his body. Tafani said that they had taken Fridman, telling him that they would package hashish. When he was confronted by Haxhiu, the latter said "I wouldn't talk to you if you didn't get me out of prison".
According to the repentant, Xhaferraj had denied, cried and begged not to kill him, but the group members had killed him with a bullet in the head, tied his body with a tire and stones and thrown it into a reservoir.
