Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha recalled the events of January 21, 2011, when 4 protesters were killed in front of his office. “First of all, I expressed my regret for the victims not after 14 years, as you or those who think like you claim, but I expressed it at exactly 7 pm that night,” Berisha said in a press conference.
"Secondly, that same night and the next day, the day after tomorrow, I requested an international investigation. I requested not an investigation, but an international investigation of the matter. The most serious international institutions have stated that that violent protest had a political agenda. Thirdly, once again there is a statement from the US government, in which an investigation is requested from the police to the organizer, who publicly and globally is Edi Rama. Fourthly, those who do not want to deceive themselves and should not use the misfortunes of others for political fodder, should know that in these 14 years, the prosecution has been completely under the control of Edi Rama. It was Ina Rama, the prosecutor, whom I accused of being a putschist, who refused the international prosecutor."
Berisha said that all the prosecutors who have previously investigated this issue have been hindered only by Edi Rama. "But the political use of this tragic event, where they were brought for genuine political purposes, to occupy the prime ministership of Edi Rama, because he most likely wanted to give another speech, is total evidence of the total misuse of this event entirely for political purposes and to hide the responsibility of the organizers who brought people to a protest, the most violent that Albania has had in 32 years. I have expressed, I express and I will express, I support any kind of investigation of this event, but I also declare that there is nothing else but to escape the responsibility of the one who organized the most violent protest for the purposes of his power, Edi Rama."
