The Fier-Kthesa e Patosit-Fratar road axis is undergoing a complete rehabilitation. The project foresees a deep intervention in the existing road, as well as the construction of several new segments, on a new route, due to the high depreciation of the old road in some areas.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, together with the Director of the Albanian Road Authority, Gentian Gjyli, and the Mayor of Mallakastër Municipality, Qerim Ismailaj, closely followed the progress of the works at this site.
The Director of the Albanian Road and Highway Authority, announced technical details of this project which includes the entire axis with a length of 43 kilometers. "There are 6.2 meters of asphalt, with two 0.5-meter benches. The entire road, at 43 kilometers, is being rehabilitated in both asphalt layers. There are several damaged areas which are also being repaired with retaining walls to systematize and increase road safety in this entire segment", said Gjyli.
For Mayor Ismailaj, this investment is a continuous request from residents and is expected to have a significant impact on the economy of the area, promoting its further development.
With the rehabilitation of the Fier-Kthesa e Patosit-Fratar axis, Mallakastra and the entire area will be more easily accessible, thus serving not only residents, but also visitors, due to the numerous potentials that the area offers.
"This has been one of the most beaten roads on the axes of the Republic of Albania, as it was the road that led to the Kakavija border crossing, but from the moment that some alternative options were created, of course the old road, what is known as the Ballshi bends road, was depreciated even more, thus making the community seek all the time to have the opportunity to rehabilitate this road. We are not only rehabilitating the longest part of the segment, but on the other hand here today we are in the segment where a new road is being built for 3.7 kilometers," said Balluku.
According to Balluku, agritourism is one of the sectors that is expected to experience significant development with the rehabilitation of this road, thus directly impacting the economy of the area.
"There are villages that are also aesthetically very interesting to see and with this road that will now pass by all these villages in the area, there will also be many opportunities for the establishment of guesthouses. I mentioned the part about the transition to another level of another economic nucleus, that of agrotourism, because during the time I have often visited the villages of the Mallakastra area, I have seen that it is in the plans of the villagers of the area, many of them. We have many families who have returned from emigration who, with their savings, are prepared to have an investment in agrotourism, but this will be possible considering that the road will now be completely rehabilitated", said Balluku.
Part of the project is also the construction of works of art, which are part of the project. (A2 Televizion)
