Works for the construction of the new water supply system in the Mamurras area, according to the government, have reached 45% of their volume.
It is also announced that the investment being made includes the opening of new wells, the construction of a storage facility and the transmission and distribution network, as well as the installation of meters for all subscribers, writes A2 CNN.
In the first phase, the project will have an impact on approximately 10 thousand residents, while upon its full completion this figure will reach 15 thousand, thus covering the entire area. The current water supply network dates back to 1972 and due to high depreciation, it fails to provide the required service.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, and the head of AKUK, Klevis Jahaj, closely followed the construction works for the water supply depot, which will have a capacity of 4,000 m3.
"It is an investment with modern parameters. It foresees three new pumping stations and the construction of a pumping station that will supply the main storage of 4 thousand cubic meters. There are three wells that will also have a storage of 80 cubic meters and a new station that will also monitor with SCADA the entire distribution system. Also the automatic part of disinfection and preservation of water quality", explained Jahaj, referring to the project that is being implemented.
Deputy Prime Minister Balluku said that investments in water supply systems throughout the country envisage complete projects, starting from storage facilities to the installation of meters, which ensure not only an uninterrupted supply of drinking water, but also safety.
"Along with all the investment we make in terms of new wells or new sources, receiving works, all the deposits that we are already building, the SCADA system that every new water supply will have, on the other hand, what is more important, the projects are always complete, since we also have smart meters. We will no longer have any problems with lump sum billing," said Balluku.
The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, referring to projects currently being implemented throughout the country, emphasized that coastal areas receive increased attention due to the tourist season, as they increase their capacity several times due to the number of visitors.
"We must bear in mind that areas like Vlora or the southern areas, 5 to 10 times their demand capacity due to all the visitors, tourists. Considering that January 2025 has a 20% higher number of visitors than January 2024, it is a trend that shows how this year will be. So, this year will have at least 20% more visitors than last year which closed with 11.7 million, so we must bear in mind that water supply and sewage are one of the most critical service points, as is energy that requires special attention and especially areas such as Durrës, Shëngjini, Velipoja, Vlora more than all, Radhima and then the entire south", said Balluku.
The first phase of the Mamurras water supply project includes supplying the city, while it will later be extended to 7 other villages in the area. (A2 Televizion)
