"You will not find anywhere two countries like Albania and Kosovo with greater support for the European Union, where, regardless of the political conviction of citizens and political parties, the pro-Euro-Atlantic orientation is unchanging." This is what President Begaj said in the meeting with the European Parliament's Reporter for Albania, Mr. Andreas Schieder.
The Head of State thanked the European Parliament as Albania's greatest supporter and advocate on the path to EU integration, while simultaneously guaranteeing Albania's full commitment to the timely fulfillment of the reforms required to advance the negotiations.
The meeting discussed the parliamentary elections of May 11, the preparations and the challenges for this process, as the President emphasized, to fully meet the European Union standards for fair, free and honest elections.
"More than the result, what matters to us is the process, the standards of democratic elections."
These elections come with an innovation, such as the Diaspora vote, which should be welcomed.
"I have addressed the political class to put an end to the worrying phenomena of previous elections, such as the use of public funds for electoral reasons, the lack of trust between political parties, and to put an end to the delay in issuing the results, so that we can have a universally accepted process and the day of issuing the results will be a beautiful day for Albania, where the winner can celebrate with modesty and the loser can respect the result," the Head of State underlined during the conversation.
The President of the Republic expressed confidence that monitoring of the process by the European Parliament and other national and international observers would influence the achievement of the required standards. (A2 Televizion)
