In an interview on A2 CNN, Belind Këlliçi has made a reflection after the loss she suffered on May 14 in the race for mayor of Tirana. In front of Merita Haklaj, Kelliçi confessed what he could have done differently, although he is convinced that he gave everything of himself and that he sacrificed everything, including the mandate of the deputy.
"Maybe I could have worked even harder, even though I gave everything of myself, I sacrificed everything I had, aware that I had a political and economic sample, aware that vote buying was at its best, aware that I had against the government apparatus and a propaganda machine in front, there was definitely an opportunity to give more from Belind Këllici and from the last activist who was involved in the May 14 campaign, even though they gave their best. I thought that a part of the democrats who might have been left behind, maybe they could have contributed more, stayed more withdrawn, I don't believe that there were democrats who did not support my platform", said Kelliçi.
"Democrats are not to blame for the defeat on May 14"
Faced with a loss of over 40,000 votes against candidate Erion Veliaj, Belind Këlliçi blamed other factors for his loss, while he went back on one of the main promises on which his campaign was based. He said that he has not regretted at all the promise that he would make free buses, since such a policy has been followed by other countries such as New York or even France.
"The democrats are not to blame for what happened on May 14, they have been in opposition for 10 years, they have done their best, that there is a difficult moment in the DP, this is acceptable and it is a fact, but that the forces are found to move forward even this it is a fact, there are 600,000 votes without a stamp, without a logo, without the media, but in the vast majority of the media I was censored by the media, I was not even given the TV time that was due to me by law. Many anathematized it, while it started in New York, free bus, it started in France in some cities, it is a practice in other European countries and I had this money in the budget, I will not steal it, I will get services for the citizens, I asked where should the stamp go, the candidate of the stamp, not Lulzim Basha", said Kelliçi.
"What Ana (partner) told me after the loss"
Belind Kelliçi expanded his story on a more personal level. He revealed to A2 CNN the conversation he had with his partner, Ana, after the loss on May 14.
"He tried to give me courage and he is one of the people who experienced my commitment and passion first hand, he was not very in favor of my candidacy, but he gave me courage and life goes on, it is disconnected from my day-to-day reality and the politics that I have often inadvertently become a part of, but which has been very supportive and has certainly given me courage at the right moments", concluded Këlliçi on A2 CNN.
