The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of attempting to hide the abuses committed by his wife and ex-wife with American funds intended for Albania, writes A2 CNN.
"The first audits in the US prove that American taxpayers' money was used to enrich the corrupt elites of the extreme left in other countries of the world. In case there is a more classic case of extreme abuse of US taxpayers' money, in Albania at the top of the list are two ladies, Linda Rama, the current wife of the Prime Minister, who in dozens and dozens of her projects, with the Open Albania Foundation, with the UNDP and others, has benefited from staggering amounts in flagrant violation of basic anti-corruption laws," Berisha said in a statement to the media.
"It constitutes a unique case on the planet, when the wife of the prime minister is paid with the money of taxpayers of other countries and mainly the US to make reports on the activities of her husband's government. This is a flagrant case that proves how far the malice of Edi Rama's entourage reaches and that for his family enrichment, Edi Rama does not respect any law, any national or international principle. Edi Rama was forced to exclude his wife from any type of study related to his government. But the opposite has happened, it is I who long ago denounced the fact of the visits, accompanied by ministers, and I denounced them by name and surname, where Linda Rama debated and found topics for her study projects in government agencies and offices. So, they were used. Absolutely flagrant activity of abuse of office and waste of funds."
"But in the hierarchy of the misuse of American taxpayer funds and the enrichment of extreme left-wing elites in various countries of the world, Albania also has the figure of the number 2 embezzler, who is called Delina Fico. Delina Fico, the current cohabitant of Minister Çuçi, and the former cohabitant of Edi Rama, has received fabulous sums with anti-constitutional and anti-legal projects from USAID for her enrichment and the capture of the justice system completely from Rama and his entourage. The number 2 embezzler or Delina Fico with the legal advisors that her company, in violation of the Constitution and the laws, has brought to the Supreme Court and the justice system, has devoured ten million euros from USAID funds. And for herself a salary twice as large as that of the US ambassador to Albania."
Berisha called on the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the US to launch investigations into these abuses. "If they are not investigated, on the contrary, these are being protected by Edi Rama just as any theft related to him is protected.
Therefore, I call on the FBI to undertake a priority investigation in Albania to uncover all the major abuses at the highest level of the Albanian government with American taxpayers' money. I invite Edi Rama, who has been swindling as you see and from morning to night, in an uncontrolled account, speaks ramblingly and without connection, to tell the Albanians about these serious national and international accusations, which tarnish the image of Albania. Has he said a single word about these? Not a word... I guarantee the Albanian citizens that a full audit with the help of the best Albanian and American experts will be carried out regarding all these abuses and that those responsible will receive the most deserved legal punishment", he added.
