After Peqin, the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, moved to Gramsh. During a meeting with the electorate supporting the May 11 elections, the leading democrat said that he knew the needs of this area. In his speech, Berisha emphasized that Gramsh has been abandoned by the government and has suffered a dramatic decline in all directions.

"The Kodovjat road has remained where we left it in 2013. There are dozens of villages without any access to infrastructure. Healthcare has returned to the way it was in 1960. A doctor told me that she serves 8 thousand residents in rural areas, because doctors are leaving, they are just leaving," Berisha declared.

He praised Gramsh's natural assets, such as fruit growing, mountain tourism and Lake Banja, but stressed that these resources do not translate into well-being for citizens. "From 50 thousand inhabitants, today Gramsh has only 16 thousand. Young people leave because there is neither hope nor work," he said.

Berisha accused the government of mismanagement and deep corruption, citing examples of inflated costs for roads and projects like the Tirana incinerator. “Money that should have been for salaries and pensions has disappeared in dubious tenders,” he said.

He called for a government that returns assets and budget to citizens, not one that impoverishes them and forces them to emigrate.

Berisha promised that Gramsh will be his top priority with investments of 70 million euros each year for irrigation, drainage and land maintenance. (A2 Televizion)
