The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has promised farmers that if the DP wins the May 11 elections, they will receive over 200 million euros in subsidies.
Berisha made the comments during his speech at a meeting with citizens in Fier, where he said that today farmers receive 32 million euros in subsidies, writes A2 CNN.
He also guaranteed that the Open Balkans project will end up in the trash can in the first week of the DP government.
Excerpt from Berisha's speech:
My friends, I am here to guarantee the wonderful farmers of Myzeqe and the entire region that the next government's support for you will increase fivefold.
That is, today you receive 32 million euros in subsidies, you will receive over 200 million euros in subsidies for every seedling, for every production unit, for every head of livestock.
I guarantee you that the Open Balkans will end up in the trash can the first week of our government.
And that you, hardworking people, will have a different climate of success.
The government, for those of you who employ 500,000 Albanians, for those of you who provide 20 percent of production, will return the money to you.
Soft loans with 80 percent of the interest covered by the government, is our commitment.
70 million euros will be spent each year on irrigation, drainage, and soil protection.
Your products will have seasonal protection.
Made in Albania is our pride, your products will be our pride.
Extension services will be free, covered by the government.
And I give you my word here today that the government will not only protect, but will do everything to create markets in the region, in Europe and in the world for Albanian products.
Every farmer should ask Sali Berisha today, ask Gazment Bardhi, why do we do this?
We don't do anything other than return the money to you, the money we take from the farmers.
We do nothing else but put you, people of work and sweat, on the same footing as the farmers of Macedonia, Kosovo, and Serbia.
Oil will have subsidies identical to those of these countries.
And oil will no longer be sold at a price plus/minus 10 percent of the price difference in Macedonia and Kosovo.
Edi Rama takes 1.1 euros from your pockets for every liter of oil. The fiscal burden on oil will be the same as Kosovo and Macedonia.
