Sali Berisha has defended his decision to "donate" 8 parliamentary mandates to allied parties, which will be part of the grand coalition in the May 11 elections, which includes a total of 27 entities.
According to the leader of the Democratic Party, these 26 parties represent a third of the Albanian electorate.
"A very good coalition was formed, of course in this coalition the DP has indeed given 8 seats on the guaranteed lists, but our democrats and supporters should know that these 26 parties in their entirety sometimes represent a third of the Albanian electorate.
Although individually they are modest parties in their votes, taken together they have an electorate of hundreds of thousands of votes.
And I tell you that this is a true victory of the alliance for Great Albania.
That's why I salute it today and guarantee that it is in accordance with the party's statute.
Similarly, the statutory provisions for quotas for girls and women on closed and open lists, and for quotas for young people on both sides of the lists, are superior to everything else for the DP lists.
"No one should think that we do not abide by the laws of our Constitution, our statute," Berisha concluded.
