Democratic Party MP Dashnor Sula, who was left off the lists for the May 11 local elections, revealed in "Debat" by Alba Alishani, on A2 CNN, that he has asked Sali Berisha and Flamur Noka to remove a candidate from the list for the Elbasan district.
Sula said that if he were included on the list, there would be three Democrats competing for the votes of a small municipality like Peqin, including a worthy figure, such as Lulzim Basha's Euro-Atlantic Coalition candidate, Emin Cani.
"My electoral machine is my people from Peqin. Relatives and everything there. In Peqin, a candidate has emerged who is a very good man, from Basha's party, Emin Cani, totally right-wing, his family persecuted. The second is another person whose name I don't want to mention again from Peqin. So Basha, him and me. Three people in a small municipality with a common socialist opponent. So we would eat each other. It didn't even make political sense," said Sula.
The opposition lawmaker explained that for the above reason, he requested to be the only one in the race from the DP for the votes of his community in Peqin, guaranteeing him, according to him, a 6th mandate in Elbasan.
"Furthermore, I asked them, considering the result that a person who does not exceed 2500-3000 votes will have with all the party votes and I exceed 6000 votes. So I get 10 thousand personal votes in the entire district and I told you I guarantee you a sixth term and at worst I will defend the 5th term. This was my condition, that another individual leave," explained Sula.
Meanwhile, analyst Lorenc Vangjeli revealed that celebrations have begun in the Socialist Party camp in Elbasan after they learned about Dash Sula's rift with the Democratic Party and his exclusion from the race.
"I can give you some news coming from the opposite camp. Mr. Sula's legitimate annoyance at being removed from the list, which is an important local player there. You can see it in the joy of the socialists who, since yesterday, have started to rewrite their projections for the results of Elbasan. I reiterate, you warned that the race is not between parties, it is reduced between Rama and Berisha. The real race will be within the type of votes on the open list.
