The Rector of the Agricultural University of Tirana, Fatbardh Sallaku, arrived at the Parliament headquarters at 8:20, 40 minutes before he was to begin his statement to the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group.
After 24 arrest warrants from SPAK for 9 problematic tenders worth around 90 million lek, Sallaku chose the political scene of the majority party to protect the image of the University he leads.
"I could have chosen a press conference, but I chose this one. And I'm ready to go to any other group," Sallaku said, writes A2 CNN.
His frequent consumption of water revealed his uncomfortable state, as he tried several times to show that this performance was not political on his part nor an interference in justice.
"I will not interfere, but we will cooperate. I hope it will be a fair process," he said, according to A2 CNN.
Despite the Prime Minister stating that the rector is not under investigation for these tenders, Sallaku admits that SPAK has also asked for his phone number.
On the phone, to show that he is not involved, the rector explained what his role is according to the law on higher education. The mention of the Ministry that deals with administration seemed not accidental.
"The minister knows... we take the budget all the way to the Senate," the rector continued.
The main concern for Sallaku, which he highlighted several times, is related to the deterioration of the university's image, as it is in the final stages of an agreement with Austrian partners for the transformation of not only the educational structure and program, but also the administrative one.
"The image is important for universities, especially in these moments when we have agreements with the BOK," he continued.
With a plea for politicians to protect the Agricultural University, the Rector left the hall, even with the Prime Minister's permission.
