The leader of the 'Albania Becomes' Movement has publicly addressed the head of the 'Weaving Initiative', following the clash of recent days over the deputy's mandate.
Through a press conference, Lapaj stated that they had a written agreement with Shabani that the MP's mandate would be taken by the person with the most votes on the coalition's open list.
Lapaj also said that his pledge that if the Albania Initiative coalition received only one mandate, he would not enter Parliament, is a pledge he made to the voters and not to Shabani and the Thurje Initiative.
He also said that he was ready to resign, along with Shabani and Pano Soko, so that the deputy's mandate could be passed to Greta Ambeli, who according to him is the most voted woman in the coalition.
"For days now I have been waiting for Mr. Shabani to discuss the impasse created in our coalition. Although we have invited him several times for a meeting, this has not happened. Therefore, I feel obliged to share the essence of the conversation I would have had with him in a possible meeting.
From the beginning, I want to emphasize that my statement to resign if only one mandate is obtained is being misused by the old politics. This commitment was my personal commitment to the voters and the structures of the 'Albania Becomes' movement and not to Mr. Shabani and the Nisma Thurje party. We had a written agreement with the Nisma Thurje party where both parties committed to passing the mandate to the candidate with the most votes from the open list, as a model that promised honesty and real competition in the elections.
Since only one mandate was won and I was the most voted candidate on the open list at the national level, I proposed to Shabani that the three of us, he and Mr. Soko, withdraw, so that the mandate can be passed to Ms. Greta Ambeli, a candidate of 'Albania Becomes' and an experienced lawyer, who enjoys the highest trust and support from our supporters and who is the most voted woman in Tirana and the second most voted after me in the Albania Becomes Movement.
"I patiently waited for a response, until one of the people on the closed list, brought by Mr. Shabani, withdrew from this commitment, an action that gave me the signal that the agreement was not being respected. During this time, I have been reserved from public statements, considering it an internal matter," Lapaj said, among other things. (A2 Televizion)
