Prime Minister Edi Rama has demanded the removal of the entire leadership of the Municipality of Tirana, including Anuela Ristan, whom he himself appointed to the head of this institution after the arrest of Erion Veliaj.
During a closed-door meeting with the new deputies of the Tirana district and with the leaders of the capital's municipality, Rama is reported to have criticized them for their poor work and performance. He has demanded their removal and replacement with other human resources who will take over the management of various sectors until the elections, but without giving a clear deadline for their development.
Rama's decision to dismiss all deputy mayors is a political decision, as legally there are only two ways to remove them from office. The first, and simplest, is voluntary resignation – a scenario that has already happened in other municipalities where "hurricane" Rama has acted before. Otherwise, the dismissal can only be done by the mayor, that is, by Erion Veliaj, through a decision signed by him from detention in Durrës, writes A2 CNN.
A signed letter must come in any case, as even if the vice presidents formally submit their resignations, new appointments must also be officially made by Erion Veliaj.
The closed-door meeting lasted more than an hour. After the meeting, the first person to leave was the acting mayor, Anuela Ristani. Meanwhile, it is learned that the only sectors that Rama has positively evaluated during these months in the municipality were the Municipal Police and the Inspectorate for Territorial Protection.
Earlier, in an open communication to the public, Rama emphasized deep territorial reform, especially in Tirana, where he is now also an MP.
For territorial control in the Municipality of Tirana, Rama has set up three working groups, which will be led by Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, Minister of Finance Petrit Malaj, as well as the heads of the Territorial Development Agency and the Urban Planning Agency.
The Prime Minister declared that in the fourth mandate of the government, Urban Renaissance II will be implemented, and that new laws for the construction sector will be adopted, in order to put an end to abuses of public spaces and construction permits.
Rama made it clear that there will be no legalizations for facilities built for business purposes after 2020. (A2 Televizion)
