The Democratic Party is against the draft law proposed by the government to increase the reference price in many areas. In a statement to the media, the advisor for economic affairs, Dorian Teliti, stated that the new reference prices increase the fiscal burden on citizens and asked the government to stop this initiative.
“The government has decided to increase the reference prices for real estate throughout the country, without conducting any public consultation with citizens and interest groups. The reference prices are increasing significantly, and in some areas, such as Durrës, these reference prices have tripled, reaching up to 2 thousand euros per m2. Be clear, this sudden decision is not simply a change of a technical and financial nature. It is a pure political act that aims to increase budget revenues through a hidden form of tax increase. With this decision, the government directly hits the citizens. The property tax on housing is immediately increased. This is not a random decision. It is part of a wrong governance model, where ordinary citizens feel the absence of the state and the serious presence of injustices every day. The Democratic Party demands: The immediate cancellation of this initiative, while not changing the reference prices of housing. The implementation of a deep and honest fiscal reform, through a transparent public consultation process with citizens, interest groups and professionals in the field, with the aim of reducing the fiscal burden on Albanian families and businesses.
