Ilir Alimehmeti, in the "ÇdoKënd" studio with Merita Haklaj, on a2 cnn, was asked if he would be included in a possible race for the chairman of the Democratic Party.
"First, there must be competition. There must be a desire and political will for competition, for change. But, when I look at 2027, I say that the candidates for mayor must be good. We saw it in 2023: we performed better where we were better represented," said Alimehmeti.
"There are two types of models for how these jobs are solved: in the East and in the West. In Albania, it is cut with a knife, someone leaves and someone enters. You have to look at the contributions that have been made to the party and for this you have to have a guarantor of these contributions. Western countries do this: during the time when it is known that someone will leave the job because their retirement age is approaching, a new one is appointed a year before. They are both together and the competencies are gradually passed on. In this way, in the end there is no strong crisis, but the situation moves forward in a gentle way.
