The leader of the 'Albania Becomes' movement, Adriatik Lapaj, has reacted to recent developments within the coalition, also commenting on the post-election clashes with former collaborator Endri Shabani.
In 'Diary' with journalist Erion Dushi on A2 CNN, Lapaj emphasizes that involvement in the elections was a "moral contract" with citizens and an attempt to bring about change through trust and institutions, not through confrontation and pressure.
"We were making a moral contract with society. We went into this kind of trust. If you are going to judge me for trust, I am open to taking all the costs. But the important thing is to look at what happened," Lapaj said.
He emphasized that the disputes that emerged after the electoral process are part of a democratic exercise, where the parties sometimes disagree, but according to him, the path to resolution was never through "paralegal institutions."
"We did not go to paralegal institutions to resolve disputes through force. We went to legal institutions, like the CEC and the KAS," he said.
Lapaj did not hide his disappointment towards Endri Shabani, stating that, despite warnings from his friends, he had maintained a 12-year social relationship with him and had not imagined the separation in this form.
"I never thought that someone could commit a suicide attack on the political journey of change in Albania," Lapaj continued.
Regarding the previous statement that he would not enter Parliament if the political entity he led only received one mandate, Lapaj emphasized that it was made in order to motivate the team, before the formation of the coalition, and that he had not intended to misinterpret the electoral system.
He revealed that after the elections he proposed a strong symbolic act: the handover of the mandate by himself, Shabani, and Soko, to preserve the moral integrity of the movement.
"I asked Shabani, in the presence of Mr. Soko, to resign the mandate. The mandate would be taken by the second most voted person of 'Albania Becomes'," said Lapaj.
Finally, Lapaj emphasizes that despite the fact that the electoral system penalized them with the mandate formula, his movement received a number of votes that would otherwise have secured several deputies. He also adds that he was willing to set an example different from traditional politics. (A2 Televizion)
