Lawyer Redi Ramaj stated that the main challenge of justice today is to increase the professional and personal standards of judges and prosecutors.
Ramaj made the comments on 'Weekend Diary' with journalist Erion Dushi on A2 CNN, where he said that if a politician is arrested for an old case after several years of investigation, goes to prison and then is acquitted, this is not justice, because according to him, they simply make an example of a person just to say that justice is working.
He also added that Albanian politics violently interferes in the judicial system, through numerous pressures and blackmails coming from both sides.
"Politics violently interferes with the judiciary, but sometimes the judiciary can also use the fact that it has something in its hands to attack elements of politics. If we believe in justice, we will all ultimately agree with the court's decision."
If we have cases where SPAK investigates and imposes security measures for politicians for 4-5 years, at a time when they could be investigating for an old offense, take them to court, the court holds a public trial, all citizens and the media watch, and then a sentence or acquittal is given.
"If we arrest a politician for a criminal offense that is not in flagrante delicto, that is, that is not being committed today, we leave him in prison for some time and tomorrow the court acquits him, what value does that innocence have? So we are not doing justice, but we are taking someone and making an example of them to say that we have stopped such and such a person. The judicial system has this challenge, increasing personal integrity," said Ramaj, writes A2 CNN. (A2 Televizion)
