Among the voters in the parliamentary elections on May 11 will also be imprisoned politicians. The mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, will choose from the list of Durrës, the city where he is in detention, as well as other socialists Ilir Beqja and Jurgis Çyrbja. Meanwhile, from the ranks of the Democrats, Ervin Salianji will vote from the prison of Fier, an institution where he is serving a criminal sentence.

In the parliamentary elections on May 11, there will also be special voters, imprisoned politicians. The publication of the final list of voters by the Ministry of Interior also brought to light the special polling stations of politicians.

This time, Erion Veliaj will not vote near the Olympic Park in Tirana, but in the Durrës prison from where he will have to make his choice among the lists of the coastal city. According to the voter list, he is 182nd in the polling station 14-2202. Legally, the place of voting is related to the residence and if the mayor of Tirana is considered transferred to Durrës, it risks being interpreted as one of the cases when the mandate of the locally elected official is lost.

Veliaj is not the only politician voting from prison. Among the socialists are also Ilir Beqja and Jurgis Çyrbja, both of whom vote for the Durrës Region.

Unlike the Socialists, Ilir Meta will have the opportunity to vote for himself, as not only is he a candidate on an open list, but his voting center is located near the "313" prison.

The Democrats also have VIP prisoners. Since September 2024, Ervin Salianji has been serving his sentence in Fier, a district in which he will also vote in the 2025 parliamentary elections.

According to the final voter list of the Ministry of Interior, there are 3,713,761 voters for the 2025 parliamentary elections, including those from abroad.  (A2 Televizion)
