The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, is participating in the Spring Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, which this year is being held in Dayton, United States, on the 30th anniversary of the agreement that ended the conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During his speech at the forum on the topic "Renewing focus on peace and prosperity in the Balkans", President Begaj reconfirmed Albania's support for the Dayton Agreement and the Euro-Atlantic integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Highlighting international efforts to end conflicts in our region, the President of the Republic emphasized that “the Dayton Peace Agreement put an end to a brutal war in the Balkans, remaining a cornerstone of peace, stability and hope”. President Begaj underlined the importance of the timely intervention in Kosovo, which helped prevent a catastrophe: “The United States of America played a historic role in securing peace three decades ago. Without American leadership, the Dayton Agreement would not have been possible. Without American leadership, we would not have had an independent Kosovo. Moreover, our region would not have achieved its current stability without the sustained commitment of the United States”.
The Head of State praised the strategic partnership with the United States of America, stating that "Albania reaffirms its strong commitment to the core values of democracy, promoting peace, security, stability, sustainable economic development and good neighborly relations. We Albanians deeply honor and value our friendship with the United States and are committed to strengthening it for generations to come."
The President of the Republic praised the continued engagement of the US, NATO and the EU in the Balkan region, while expressing the commitment as a member of the Euro-Atlantic Alliance to strengthen NATO's solidarity, unity and cohesion.
Faced with the new challenges facing the Balkans after the war in Ukraine, President Begaj called for cooperation among allies to transform them into opportunities, hope, and unity.
"Let us reaffirm our commitment to the Western Balkans, a region that does not remain in the shadow of its past, but stands in the light of its future. 30 years ago peace was made possible here. Now it is our duty to ensure that it becomes permanent", declared the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj. (A2 Televizion)
