Rama comfortable with US tariffs, Kallas: Albania in the EU, 2030 a realistic

Albania's EU membership by 2030 is not a matter of stars aligning, but an objective that can be achieved if everyone does their part. This was stated in Tirana by the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, during a press conference with Prime Minister Rama. According to her, reforms on paper alone are not enough.

"Is 2030 a realistic target? Yes, it is, if we all take the right steps along the way. So, Albania with its reforms – not only the reforms that need to be approved, but also the approved ones that need to be implemented," Kallas said.

But is the Socialist Party, led by Edi Rama, the only one that can take Albania to Brussels as a full member of the European family, as the Prime Minister claims? The high representative of Brussels answered this question diplomatically, underlining the necessity of inclusiveness.

"In this journey, the cooperation of all parties is needed, because this requires some very difficult reforms that must be fully implemented, and for this, full support and endorsement is needed," she said.

So, not just the reforms, but also their implementation, which requires the full support of political parties, writes A2 CNN. Prime Minister Rama said that he understands the response of the EU official who did not confirm the exclusivity, explaining that the Union cannot take sides between parties on the eve of the elections.

"The EU does not decide who wins and who loses the elections in Albania, nor does it link its policy to who is elected in Albania. This is elementary. But, on the other hand, what I say and repeat is that there is no other force that can carry out this mission. This is not determined by the EU, and even if they think about it, they will never say it," said Rama.

During the press conference, A2 CNN also asked the Prime Minister about the imposition of tariffs by US President Donald Trump on our country's exports. Unlike EU leaders, Edi Rama expressed himself calmly.

"Our approach to this whole new policy that is being done with tariffs is a very simple approach and in a way comfortable for our own position, for the very volume of trade that we have with the US. And if you also refer to the tariff table announced by the Oval Office, we have no reason to have any concerns," Rama said.

Earlier, the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, also met with President Bajram Begaj. The latter's press office announced that during this meeting, the enlargement of the European Union to the Western Balkans was discussed, describing it as the most effective geopolitical tool for maintaining security and stability in the region.
