The High Representative of the European Union, Kaja Kallas, expressed the Union's support for Albania's integration process. At a joint press conference with Prime Minister Edi Rama, she announced the launch of the first dialogue on security and defense, where the European Union, according to her, has offered 13 million euros to improve the preparation of the Armed Forces in Albania.
Today we will launch the first security and defense dialogue with Albania. We are deepening cooperation in the security sector. We will expand it into new areas such as combating hybrid threats and cybersecurity, combating terrorism and crisis management. The EU has provided 13 million euros in funding to improve the preparation of the Albanian Armed Forces. We have expanded procurement on this issue and we are doing this with all countries.
Albania's cooperation with the EU, Kallas said, goes beyond the certainty that there is an agenda to complete negotiations in the next two years. According to her, there is no shortcut to reaching the EU except for reforms, and they are difficult.
"Our cooperation goes beyond the certainty that there is an agenda to complete negotiations in the next two years, there is no shortcut to reaching the EU except reforms and they are difficult. You have our full support for opening a group of other chapters and meeting standards, in particular under the rule of law. The future of the EU is in the EU."
The EU High Representative also mentioned the agreement for the construction of the Durrës-Rrogozhina railway, which she emphasized will bring jobs and trade, but will also be a proper corridor through member states and NATO in terms of military movement.
"I saw the signing of the 90 million euro agreement to build the railway through the port of Durres and Rrogozhina. This project will bring more jobs and trade and will connect Albania with its EU neighbors and will be a proper corridor through member states and NATO, in terms of military movement."
