The Mayor of Himara, Vangjel Tavo, has commented for the first time on Prime Minister Edi Rama's strong warnings towards the local government and administration. Invited to the show "Off the Record" with Andrea Dangli on A2 CNN, Tavo said that Rama's stance is a clear signal coming from citizens, who want service and efficiency from the administration.
"The support given to the majority by Albanians is a message that shows that they believe in a government and seek an administration that serves them. The Prime Minister does nothing but convey the message that they voted for this majority to govern this country."
Tavo admitted that there are sectors where the local administration has become a "comfort zone". "You can't stay in one chair for 12 years. There is a part of the administration that has fallen asleep. There comes a moment when they may be tired, not the whole administration, but they think that this chair is theirs and no one will take it from them and they fall asleep."
The head of the Himara Municipality added that mechanisms have been established to monitor performance, to avoid dragging oneself into positions without merit: "Therefore, there are structures that monitor everyone's performance and in the end it is decided who should be in one chair or another," Tavo said on the "Off the Record" show.
