The President of the Constitutional Court of Albania, Holta Zaçaj, gave clear messages to politics, that the judicial power can only function when it is independent. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Constitution, Zaçaj said that he understands the criticism of judges as a right to freedom of expression, but emphasizes that they should not be used as an attack or as a means of pressuring them.
"Criticisms against the Court and its judges are an indicator of the freedom of expression for which we all fought, but to the extent that they do not turn into an attack or a means of pressure on them. Let's not forget, the judiciary can play its constitutional role only if it is independent. The politicization of the judiciary and the judicialization of politics have been and are phenomena, which constitute constant challenges for developing democracies, but also for consolidated ones," she said.
On the other hand, President Bajram Begaj said that the justice system is facing a big challenge, but that must be overcome in order to approach as many citizens as possible with efficiency, equality before the law, and transparency.
The justice system is facing a big challenge, due to the large number of cases that the courts have under consideration. We must think of solutions as quickly and effectively as possible. Our aim is to bring justice to citizens with efficiency, equality before the law, transparency. Its results help to increase legislative quality and constitutional control", said Begaj.
Meanwhile, on this 25th anniversary of the Constitution, the Minister of Justice, Ulsi Manja, did not hesitate to sting the opposition, which was absent in this hall.
"The political history of the transition in Albania has shown how many times the political parties have tried to find Ad Hoc solutions avoiding the constitutional principles and have failed successfully. Throughout these years, through political divisions, we have been able to build political consensus to bring about necessary changes for the country.
Ironically, today in the Parliament we have a situation that resembles that of the distant year 1998 at the time of the Constitutional debate, where the wise statesman Sabri Godo called on the representatives of the opposition to join the discussions in the Constitutional Commission with the conviction that the reason human constitutional prudence to win against any force that intended to undermine the Albanian constitutional democracy.
Today, the return to parliamentarism and parliamentary debates as the only solution to political deadlocks is dictated by the Constitution itself, which has foreseen that every opposition political exigencies within the constitutional loyalty should be resolved", declared Manja.
In the same spirit was the speaker of the Assembly, Lindita Nikolla, who has been repeatedly accused by the opposition of violating the Constitution.
"The assembly will not allow the elected to impose their will on those who elected them. A decade ago, we faced a system of corruption, which had turned into a heavy weapon of the anti-state," said Nikolla. (A2 Televizion)
