A 14-year-old from Durres affected by a severe form of Meningitis overcomes the risk to his life and returns home. Head of the Infectious Disease Service Najada Çomo tells A2 CNN that after very difficult days for his family and the team of doctors, the teenager overcame the disease.

There are no health consequences or risk to others. In the infectious disease service at the QSUT, there are currently no other cases of Neseria Meningitis. The head of this service says that the population should not be alarmed or rush for the vaccine, as cases in our country are sporadic. But does Najada Çmo recommend the application of the meningitis vaccine for the healthy population?

"There is no need for alarm or to rush to get vaccinated. But everyone is free to consult a doctor about this vaccine. In adults, we only recommend it to those who have weak immunity or who want to travel to Saudi countries," Çomo told A2 CNN.

The vaccine against the most severe forms of meningitis has been recommended by the Institute of Public Health for inclusion in the mandatory calendar. The head of this institution, Eugena Tomini, invited to A2, says that it is expected to be approved within the next 5 years, while explaining why priority was given to the application of the vaccine against cervical cancer.

The emergence of meningitis cases in the city of Durrës, one in December where a 17-year-old girl lost her life, and the recent case of a 14-year-old boy, particularly alarmed the parent community.

But the IHP emphasizes that there are no meningitis outbreaks in Durrës or other cities and that the affected cases were not related to each other. (A2 Televizion)
