Attempts by the population and mainly young people to treat anxiety, depression or strong emotional states with drugs bought at the pharmacy, without consulting a doctor or psychologists, are causing serious problems, comparable to those that cause addiction from the use of narcotics.
Such a phenomenon is also encountered in the city of Elbasan. But what are the drugs that people usually buy over the counter at the pharmacy to stabilize their emotional state?
Minga Matraku, toxicologist, tells A2 CNN: "Drugs with high addictive potential are used. Their risk for abuse and addiction is known to be worse than heroin addiction."
But what do the use of these drugs without a doctor's prescription really cause, beyond the relief that appears at first sight?
"It directly damages concentration, memory and balance", explains Matraku.
For the doctor, people who have problems with anxiety and emotions should first consult with psychologists, since drug treatment is not the solution to their problem. The doctor appeals not only to citizens not to use medications without consulting a doctor, but also appeals to pharmacists not to give drugs that can cause addiction to patients without a doctor's prescription.
