Domestic violence cases during 2024 marked an increase throughout the country. According to data available to a2cnn, last year the police referred 2,139 cases of domestic violence to the prosecutor's office, 228 cases more compared to the previous year.
But has violence increased significantly or have Albanian women become more aware of reporting this phenomenon?
Psychologist Entela Binjaku says that women's awareness of reporting domestic violence has increased. Reports have also been made by women in suburban areas, but their number still remains low.
Binjaku explains the factors that lead to violence. The economic situation, says psychology, is among the main factors.
An increase has also been seen in the issuance of protection orders. Last year, 2,934 cases of domestic violence were treated with protection orders, 204 cases more compared to 2023. (A2 Televizion)
