The tourist season has already begun in the UNESCO city of Gjirokastra. In the city, and especially in the historic area, it is not difficult to notice groups of tourists.

But now that Gjirokastra is also known to foreigners, it risks damaging sustainable tourism due to several factors, one of which and the most important is informality.

"It is true that this has been added as a problem, not because of the fact that they have opened, because it is a very good thing that they are open and this opportunity should be for everyone, but their non-payment has penalized businesses that pay, as it is without a doubt offensive and offensive, because a ratio of 1 to 5 has been made. Those who do not pay are much more. On the other hand, I think it is also a deterioration in the quality of service, because from the moment you do not pay anything to the state, you keep prices very low and provide a service that can compromise the quality and reputation of everyone, not just them," Gentian Bineri from the Hotel Association, Gjirokastër told A2 CNN.

The lack of signage in the city and the senseless road blockages, according to the head of the Gjirokastra hotel association, also risks making tourists unhappy.

"I don't think this is a good thing for tourists who get tired of finding their way, of the lack of signage, and of other problems, starting with the noise and the blockage of shopping streets. No one understands and everyone looks after their own interests, but it is the institutions that should enforce the law."

The need for personnel, especially qualified personnel, in hotels and guesthouses is seen as another challenge that must be faced by service units in Gjirokastra, which has a season that lasts more than 7 months a year.   (A2 Televizion)
