On the fifth day of the battle with the flames that have occupied the Drenova e Mallkastra area since Sunday afternoon, the fires, fanned by winds and favorable terrain, threatened and came dangerously close to oil wells, an electrical substation, and a warehouse in the area.
The immediate intervention of firefighting teams, assisted by the services of the private company that manages the oil wells, avoided a serious risk of both the wells and the electrical substation being engulfed in flames, writes A2.
The mayor of Mallakastra was also present, who considered it intolerable that fires are being lit to clear land and that hundreds of forces have been fighting to put them out for days.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, army forces are expected to assist in extinguishing the fires in the area, while aerial intervention by helicopter will once again be evaluated. (A2 Televizion)
