"Sport is economy. Sport is education. Sport is health", said Fidel Ylli, head of KOKSH. These are undeniable truths. Equally undeniable is the fact that Albania needs sport more than ever.
“Sport is Albania’s best image in the world.” Precisely to give another boost to the development of sports, the country will soon have a “1 billion dollar city” near Tirana. “This is an Olympic city that will have several stadiums inside: an Olympic football stadium with an athletics track and a capacity of 4,508 seats. There will also be a sports palace with 6,000 seats, an indoor stadium for athletics, as well as fields and indoor stadiums for all Olympic sports.”
"There will be multi-sports halls, hockey rinks, golf courses, recreational spaces for children, shooting range, swimming pool, museum, restaurants, cinema, etc. It will be financed with the PPP format, like the National Arena. The business plan foresees a 5-star hotel and two 4- and 3-star hotels, business offices and energy production from solar panels," said Muhamed Rexhepi, architect.
The capital's new Olympic Park will be built near Rinas Airport, with financing from Saudi Arabia.
"This is an initiative discussed with the government and the prime minister. We have agreed. I have told him that I will find a land that will not burden the state budget. The vast majority, 2/3, is state land. The other parcels will be compensated. But everything will remain after the elections."
The construction of the sports complex as a separate city continues to be the dream of the National Olympic Committee. Since December 2023, when this ambitious idea was first presented, today the Albanian Olympic Committee has the project ready. (A2 Televizion)
