Erdogan from Tirana calls for unity: History has shown that when Europe was

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that Europe must be united in the face of security and economic challenges.

Erdogan made the comments at the meeting of the European Political Community in Tirana, where he said that the history of wars in Europe has shown that if states are divided, then they are weaker in the face of aggressors.

He also asked European Union states to review the Schengen visa practice, which restricts the movement of Turks and Turkish goods.

“I wanted to thank my dear friend Edi Rama and all those who have contributed to the organization of this Summit. We have gathered together to discuss a new vision that will redefine our continent. It is important that we act unitedly. To overcome the crisis of confidence in the international arena, it is necessary to create a fair and inclusive global governance architecture.

This must start first and foremost at home, on the European continent. There is tremendous potential for cooperation, in areas such as the defence industry, energy, transport corridors, digital markets and critical minerals. There are so many areas where we can cooperate. In these critical times when we are discussing the future of European security, the EU's efforts to develop its defence industry are truly useful.

We also believe that these efforts should include non-EU allies, in a way that does not affect or erode NATO's essential role. This would be in the best interest of European security. Many wars and conflicts in Europe have shown us that when it comes to defense or security, divided we are weaker and united we are stronger.

Turkey has an economic size of 1.3 trillion US dollars, a dynamic population of 85 million and direct access to consumer markets. The generalization of the customs union with the EU will contribute to the security of supply chains. Visa practices such as Schengen, which limit the movement of our people and goods, must be reviewed. With our investments in gas production in recent years, we are transforming our country into a country with great energy weight", Erdogan said, among other things. (A2 Televizion)
