"As soon as we landed, our plane crashed, flipped over."
A fully loaded Delta plane crashed at Toronto airport in Canada, ending up without wings, upside down and on fire, writes A2.
Peter Goelz, an aviation expert, told CNN: "It's extraordinary that all the people survived."
At least 18 people were injured, according to airport officials. Miraculously, no lives were lost on the plane that departed from Minnesota.
Deborah Flint, President of the Toronto Airport, stressed: “This was made possible by the quick and heroic intervention of our professionals.”
All 76 passengers and 4 crew members were evacuated from the Delta plane. One of them recounted the horror: “The impact was so strong, like we hit the ground, and the plane went sideways. And I think we slid on our side and then flipped over. When we stopped, it was like a big ball of fire from the left side of the plane, and we ended up upside down. We tried to get out of there as quickly as possible and right after that I finished shooting the video and there was another explosion.”
Security experts say the success of the first intervention came because everything went well. As investigators work to understand how the incident happened, analysts point to details that made it possible for passengers to remain safe.
David Soucie, a safety expert, explained to CNN: "The 16G seats that were installed on the plane many years ago prevented the seats from separating during this accident, saving the passengers. Another thing that helped save the passengers was that the breakaway bolts were in the wings. Once the plane starts to spin like that, if these wings don't break in half, then they cause death."
Strong winds have been blowing all day in Toronto. The airport has also issued a warning regarding the bad weather conditions. (A2 Televizion)
