Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov praised US President Donald Trump's intention to end the war in Ukraine, but accused European powers that have gathered around Kiev of seeking to prolong the conflict.
Lavrov said the United States still wants to be the most powerful country in the world and that Washington and Moscow will never see eye to eye on everything, but that they had agreed to be pragmatic when interests aligned.
"Trump is a pragmatist. His slogan is common sense, of course it means, and everyone already sees it, a shift to a different way of doing things. But the goal is still "MAGA" - Make America Great Again. "Everything Trump promised, he did". If you look at history in retrospect, you will see that Americans did not play any such instigating role in the war. And now, after the Biden presidency, people (Trump's team) came who want to be guided by common sense, who bluntly declare: "We want to end all wars, we want peace". Just like now, when Europe brought (Zelenskiy) to power with bayonets they are now pushing him forward. They also want to support him with their bayonets in the form of peacekeeping units. But this means that the root causes will not disappear. Because when we ask these thinkers (Europeans), what happens to that part (of Ukraine) they don't say anything."
