Have you ever wondered how much the President of the United States earns? This position is currently held by Donald Trump, and his salary is enough to make him one of the richest 5% of people in America.
But what are the numbers? The president's official salary, updated in January 2025, is $400,000 a year (about 384,000 euros), which is paid in monthly installments, in addition to a $50,000 annual expense allowance, a $100,000 travel allowance, and $19,000 for official holidays (for example, during visits by other heads of state). Any unused dollar is returned to the US Treasury.
Added to all this, of course, is the accommodation in the 132 rooms in the 5,109 square meters of the White House, for which the president and his family pay no rent and which includes 35 bathrooms, a movie theater, a swimming pool, a bowling alley and a jogging track.
The last increase in the presidential salary was sanctioned in a 1999 amendment, but while the amount has increased, the value has decreased due to inflation. From 1969 to 1999, the president earned $200,000 a year, equivalent to $1.7 million today. Several US presidents have given up their salaries, relying on other income. Among them was Donald Trump in his first term, and before him John F. Kennedy and Herbert Hoover. (A2 Televizion)
