But what are the numbers? The president's official salary, updated in January 2025, is $400,000 a year (about 384,000 euros), which is paid in monthly installments, in addition to a $50,000 annual expense allowance, a $100,000 travel allowance, and $19,000 for official holidays (for example, during visits by other heads of state). Any unused dollar is returned to the US Treasury.
Added to all this, of course, is the accommodation in the 132 rooms in the 5,109 square meters of the White House, for which the president and his family pay no rent and which includes 35 bathrooms, a movie theater, a swimming pool, a bowling alley and a jogging track.
