Shortly after the US and Russia "made peace" in Saudi Arabia, with Ukraine at the negotiating table, Kiev's leader, Volodymyr Zelensky, has reacted strongly against this meeting.
He has called for Ukraine and Europe to be included in any peace negotiations that the Americans and Russians plan to hold next.
Speaking alongside Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, the Ukrainian leader said the talks "cannot take place behind our backs . "
Meanwhile, in a post on Telegram, Zelensky says it is "of fundamental importance that the negotiations include the main actors affected by the consequences of Russian aggression," which are Ukraine and the European Union.
"Ukraine, Europe - in a broad sense, which includes the European Union, Turkey and Britain - must be involved together with America in the talks and development of the necessary security guarantees that concern the fate of our part of the world," he said.
Zelensky was due to visit Saudi Arabia himself tomorrow, but has postponed the trip until next month. Two sources told Reuters that this was in order not to give any "legitimacy" to the US-Russia meeting. (A2 Televizion)
